Coming to terms with hearing that you are dealing with hearing loss isn't always easy, but the good news is that it’s likely that you have an expert audiologist ready to answer all your questions and help you through it. When you’re told that you need assistance with your hearing, it’s understandable that you will feel overwhelmed by the news.

Your biggest concern will be in preparing for your hearing aid fitting so that you can come away from your appointment feeling confident that you now have the support you need for your hearing. Your focus may have been on the hearing test at first, which means that it’s quite the surprise to learn that you require a full appointment that will be much longer just to ensure that your hearing aid fitting is accurate.

There may even be more than one appointment if you don't have the time for a long appointment in one day. This hearing aid fitting with your audiologist is going to ensure that your hearing aids fit you and that the device is turned properly to your hearing needs. Your audiologist will talk you through hearing aid care basics, and they’ll even teach you how to turn up the volume and change the battery for your hearing aid brand. It’s a lot to digest at once and we’ve got several ways that you can prepare for a hearing aid fitting below.

Give yourself the time

Ideally, you want this appointment to be on one day. The appointment is so much more than collecting the device and training you to use it. It’s time to answer any questions and show you the features and how it all works. You’re also going to be taught how to properly clean your hearing aids, too.

Bring a friend with you

Often, the amount of information that you have to take in is hard to keep in your head! When you bring a friend, they can help you to remember the things that you forgot and catch the instructions that you needed to remember, too. Bringing a friend will also make the process feel less overwhelming.

Ask how to ask for help!

Many people go away from their hearing aid fitting with no clue when the best time to contact their audiologist with problems would be. Make sure that you ask how you can get in touch if you need some help.

Take a deep breath

Being in a position to need hearing aids isn't always easy. You have to think about them whenever you leave the house and use them as your audiologist directs you to. Taking a breath and remembering that they are here to help is so important!

Take notes

This appointment certainly won't be your last one, but it’s one that you can ask as many questions as possible and go away feeling as if you really did prepare yourself for your new hearing aids.
